In recent months, I have seen a growing number of patients who are worried about their appearance because of how their look may impact their careers. It turns out they are not alone.
News of layoffs and economic challenges abound. There is also a long held belief that one’s appearance has a direct impact on hiring. So perhaps it is not surprising that millions of American women and men are considering cosmetic plastic surgery to help give them the competitive edge needed in the workforce.
In fact, a telephone survey compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) of women between the ages of 18 and 64, discovered that many women believe cosmetic plastic surgery procedures are an crucial rung when climbing the corporate ladder of success in their chosen career.
Women and men who are approaching or have reached middle age find themselves taking steps to retain or regain thier youthful appearance. They believe such changes can positively impact their ability to land a new job or retain a current one. Here are some other results of the phone survey by ASPS that I found very interesting:
- 13 percent (more than 1 out of 10 of the 115-million working-age women) say they would consider having a cosmetic medical procedure specifically to make them more confident and more competitive in the job market.
- An astounding 3 percent (nearly 3.5-million working women) say they’ve already had a cosmetic procedure to increase their perceived value in the workplace.
- 73 percent (almost three out of four or, 84-million working women) believe, particularly in these challenging economic times, appearance and youthful looks play a part in getting hired, getting a promotion, or getting new clients.
- 80 percent (four out of five or 92-million working women) think having cosmetic medical procedures can boost a person’s confidence.
The most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures for working adults include:
- Botox
- Facial Fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse
- Sculptra Aesthetic (a facial volumizer)
- Microdermabrasion
- Chemical peels
- Fraxel
In my practice, the most popular surgical cosmetic procedures among working adults tend to be:
- Eye lifts
- Brow lifts
- Face lifts
- Fat injections
- Tummy tucks
- Liposuction
- Body Lifts
Many patients find that these non-surgical and surgical cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in Oklahoma City give them a more youthful, refreshed, healthy appearance; and ultimately, it seems when they look better, they feel better about themselves both on the job and outside of the workplace too.
